Disney Christmas Vacation - they have sold their souls to greed and excess

following is my letter to WDW regarding our recent holiday there: Saturday, January 19, 2008 Dear Walt Disney World Resort Management- I am writing this letter regarding our recent family vacation to your park. We planned our 2007 Christmas vacation 10 months in advance. Our trip was confirmed for December 22nd – 25th, we planned on visiting Epcot, MGM and the Magic Kingdom. Using the customized maps, we carefully planned every ride, lunch break and dinner break. We had expected crowds and our experiences at Epcot and MGM were overall “good.” We planned to spend our last day, 12/24 at the Magic Kingdom. We were utterly surprised and appalled at the crowd level at 8am, it was total pandemonium. A cast member on the ferry said to me, “Hold onto your kids if you ever want to see them again… “ There was absolutely NO crowd control and the ticket booths were happily churning out more tickets. There were ridiculously long lines for food, lines for bathrooms, lines for fast passes and lines for lines. We could not follow our map plans because it was physically impossible to maneuver with the crowds. We managed to ride one ride (Splash Mountain, we waited for over 95 minutes) and decided to fast pass it again. Our fast pass time slot was 4:30 – 5:30 pm, and it was only 9:30 am! We waited in line for over 110 minutes for the Haunted Mansion, only to be shuttled in like cattle into an overcrowded and stuffy room. A gentleman behind us said he was a fireman and the ride was dangerously overcrowded, his family left out of an exit door and we followed also. This ride was a death trap! We literally felt like we were being held hostage at your park. Even your cast members were stressed and strained at the crowd level. Your employees were shouting at guests and rude. We left after 5 hours of sheer torture and only got to ride ONE ride. It was impossible to get from one ride to another, too many strollers and too many wheelchairs! What happiness could a handicapped person experience with the amount of people at the park? The management should be ashamed! Why did you continue to sell tickets? Do you have a tracking system at your ticket venues that alerts you when your sales approach maximum capacity? Walt Disney himself would be ashamed at how management has sold out to greed and excess! And at what cost? Our overall experience at the Magic Kingdom was horrible, I can assure you, this was no magical experience for my family, we will never return! Your decision to oversell the Magic Kingdom on December 24, 2007 ruined our vacation, I am attaching our ticket stubs and parking pass, in which I expect a full refund for our visit to the Magic Kingdom and parking expenses incurred. Regretfully,

I guess you've never been to these parks during Christmas time. Or you've never talked to anyone that has. That is their busiest time of year. Keep in mind that with the economy in the toilet these parks are hurting. They have to sell tickets, and alot of them, to make up for their slower times of the year. But you are right, Disney is a lousy plce to be when it's that crowded. Try going during the summer when it's 100 degrees and super crowded.

I agree with you 100 % ! We have to yell so that everyone can hear us ! We don't like to yell and be rude but sometimes it has to be done, I work @ Studios and I want to say i'm sorry that you were there on the second busiest day of the year. Days like that make me want to quit, because the so called managers are sitting in an office . They need to come out and work out there and see what chaos there is.
